Septicemia
Septicemia is a performative research project and installation addressing the extreme experience of septic shock, induced coma, bodily trauma, and forms of rebirth.
This work-in-progress is based on an infection experienced by the artist, at a decisive moment in her life and career. A wound on the knee led to septic shock that compromised the bloodstream and resulted in three months of induced coma and intensive care at St. Franziskus-Hospital in Münster. A surgical opening of the right leg nearly resulting in amputation was required, followed by an unexpected recovery.
During this physical collapse, the artist also affirmed her migrant condition upon receiving Belgian nationality held alongside Peruvian nationality. A photographic record documents the medical interventions and recovery.
This piece is conceived as the second part of a trilogy, preceded by Odisea 2.0 and followed by Radical Hope.
