Radical Hope
Radical Hope is a theatrical and research project exploring hope and transformation through masks inspired by Andean traditions.
The project examines themes of hope, transformation, and rebirth through an encounter with cultural roots and identity. In this context, the mask does not conceal identity; rather, it connects it to forces or symbols of power that trigger inner transformations and establish links with the natural world—animals, plants, mountains.
The work focuses on three masks: the Huacon (bird-human) from the Mantaro Valley in the Junín region; the Saqra, which brings the diabolical and the grotesque into dialogue, evoking tensions between good and evil; and masks inspired by the “Diablada de Puno,” rituals and dances typical of the Andes in which opposing forces confront one another.
