Huaroca
Huaroca is a research project in performance archaeology developed in collaboration with archaeologist Alexander Herrera. It seeks to reconstruct a pre-colonial Andean ritual described in the 17th-century Huarochirí Manuscript.
Based on recent archaeological and ethnohistorical findings—including masks, shell, pututo, tamper and references to ritual pilgrimages—the project proposes a scenic exploration of the soundscape of Weetacocha (Ancash, Peru). The performance combines dance, sound, and landscape to revive ancestral practices related to water, fertility, and the veneration of sacred huaca sites, bridging to life memories of pre-colonial Andean dance traditions.
